Actions Of The Heart

Shaikh Salim al-Amry

“The heart of a human being can change very quickly.” “A man sleeps at night as a believer; He wakes up in the morning as a disbeliever” “That is why the prophet {Peace Be Upon Him} taught us to cry to Allah all the time to Keep Our Hearts Steady and Firm Upon the Truth.” Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Verily Allah does not look to your faces and your wealth but He looks to your heart and to your deeds. In these times of hastening and being busy, of ‘no time’ and ‘o, I forgot,’ we want to give ourselves a guide to help us in our worship through each day. The Muslim Diary contains a practical list on which you can mark the acts of worship and good deeds you did that day. The list is a selection of the most recommended acts of ‘ibadah [worship] in a schedule with all week days. All the deeds are being explained in an easy but powerful way through Qur’anic verses and Ahadith.   How to use The Muslim Diary. You can use the diary to strive to start practising all the mentioned points. There are many more things you can do, but The Muslim Diary is just a guide for a few very useful acts which carry great rewards. You can also use The Muslim Diary as a tool to improve yourself. What did I do last month? What can I do this month to make it better? Possible ‘shortcomings’ will be visible this way. The name ‘diary’ already says it and this is how you should treat it. Make sure it becomes something personal and show it to nobody else. All the acts being ticked or coloured are between you and Allah the Most High.   Abu Hafs ‘Umar bin al-Khattab [ra] said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah [saw] saying: Actions are only by intentions, and every man has only that which he intended. Whoever’s emigration is for Allah and His Messenger then his emigration is for Allah and His Messenger. Whoever’s emigration is for some worldly gain which he can acquire or a woman he will marry then his emigration is for that for which he emigrated.” [Bukhari, Muslim]   That is why we should keep trying to make our intentions pure and sincere. For any deed to be accepted by Allah, the Most High, must be done for Allah the Glorious, the Most High alone and it must be done the way Allah, the Exalted and His Prophet Muhammad [saw] legislated.   We ask Allah the Glorious, the Mighty, by His beautiful Names and sublime Attributes to accept this as being done sincerely for His Face alone. May those who read it and those who have had any role in distributing it or supported in publishing it, greatly benefit from it. Surely He, glory is to Him, is Capable of all things. Shaykh Husayn al-Awaayishah

I felt that I should hurry in bringing forward the hadeeth: “The two feet of the son of Aadam will not move from near his Lord on the Day of Judgement until he is asked about five (matters): about his life – how he spent it;  about his youth – how he took care of it; about his wealth – how he earned it; and where he spent it; and about that which he acted upon from the knowledge that he acquired,” as an aid towards purification of the souls and preparation for death. The advice being firstly to myself, secondly to the du’aat (callers to Allah’s path) and thirdly to all my Muslim brothers in every part of the world – hoping that Allah, the Most High, will cause benefit through that which I have written and that the fruits of that may be reaped, now and in the future. In this treatise I restricted myself to one part of the hadeeth and that is “…and about that which he acted upon from the knowledge that he gained. Continue reading

This book represents a concise review of Islam’s viewpoint toward love. It explains the following questions that  Muslims often ask: What is love?, Does Islam acknowledge this phenomenon called love?, What is the wisdom behind  this phenomenon?, What are the various classifications of love? Which type of love is the most sacred in Islam?  What is the Islamic stance toward Uzri or chaste love and flirting? These questions will be answered in detail in  the pages of the book, without any confusion or ambiguity.

Note:

The translator made a mistake on page 124 when he said ‘A muslim who follows the way of adultery and  fornication is not a Muslim whether he fasts and prays’, however this should read ‘if he believes these actions to  be halal then he is not a Muslim’. Continue reading

Know O beloved reader that it is most important to spend one’s time and energy in treating the heart, and hastening to correct and purify it from sickness and all sins. This is due to the heart occupying a great and lofty position in Islaam, for it is the place to which the Lord looks and the storehouse for tawheed, faith, and sincerity. Actions are distinguished, one from the other, with respect to their excellence in the Sight of Allah in accordance with the condition of the heart, not by their number or form, but rather due to the strength of the caller, his or her truthfulness, his or her sincerity and the extent to which he or she prefers Allah over himself or herself … Al-Haafidh ibn Hajr al-Asqalaanee, may Allah have mercy upon him and provide us with his knowledge, said: “The heart has been singled out for this because it is the leader of the body, and through the purification of the leader the subjects become c, and with his corruption they become corrupted. So if you, O servant of Allah, with to cure your heart then it is upon you to be truthful with regards to seeking refuge with Allah and putting your trust in Him, to pray a great deal of superogatory prayers, to perform the actions of obedience to Allah frequently, to pray the night prayer while the people are sleeping, and to treat your heart by making it continuously stick to the remembrances and by befriending only the righteous … and to frequently recite the Qur’an. And Allah will indeed allow all of this to be preserved by him.” Continue reading
