Belief in the Day of Resurrection is one of the central tenets of Islamic faith. It is a belief that was preached by all the prophets, and it is a belief that makes sense of a sometimes incomprehensible world. Belief in the Day of Resurrection and the final Judgement brings benefits in this world, on the individual and social level. It makes the individual focus on what is in his or her ultimate best interests, guiding the person’s actions in ways that will benefit him or her and bring happiness in this world and the next. On the broader social level, this belief imposes controls on human greed and restrains people from committing transgressions for which they would ultimately have to answer. The Qur’an and the Sunnah are filled with detailed information about what will come to pass on that great Day. Drawing upon these sources of Islam, Dr. ‘Umar al-Ashqar takes us through the events of that Day, from the first Trumpet-blast and the end of life in the universe and on earth, through the terrors of the Resurrection and the ordeals of the Judgement, to the final entry to the place of eternal abode, in Paradise or Hell. This is a book which deserves to be on Muslim bookshelves in homes, schools, and Islamic centres, for it deals with a topic of vital importance to every believer. This Islamic Creed Series of books has been translated into English by Nasiruddin al-Khattab. Continue reading

The Key To Paradise

The Key To Paradise: An Explanation To The Testimony Of Faith And Its Benefits

When the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alaihi wa salam) was sent to the polytheists to call to this statement, ‘None has that right to be worshiped save Allah,’ that understood something from it that made them reject it, opposed the Messenger, and all those who believed in it. What was this understanding? Was it the understanding that Allah existed and was One? They already believed in this. They believed that He was the Creator, Nourisher, Sustainer, in His hands was the control of all affairs, and in His hands was life and death.

It was said to al-Hasan, ‘People say that whoever says, ‘None has the right to be worshipped,’ shall enter Paradise.’ He said, ‘Whoever says, ‘None has the right to be worshipped save Allah,’ and fulfills its obligations and meets its requirements shall enter Paradise.’

Wahb ibn Munabbih was asked, ‘Is not the testification that “none has the right to be worshipped save Allah” the key to Paradise?’ He replied, ‘Of course, but every key has its teeth: if you bring a key that has teeth, the door shall open; but if not, it will not.’

My brothers! Strive, today, to your utmost in actualizing Tawhid, for nothing else can take you to Allah. Be desirous for establishing its rights for nothing else will save you from the punishment of Allah. The testification of Tawhid has many great benefit, it is not possible to enumerate them all, however, the author mentions fifty-five benefits of it.

This small treatise deals with the correct and accurate meaning of the testification of Tawhid and with an extremely beneficial appendix – The Types of Hearts – by al-Hafiz ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah.

About Imam Ibn Rajab al Hanbali (736 – 795 AH)

He was the noble Imaam, the Haafidh, the Critic, Zayn-ud-Deen ‘Abdur-Rahmaan bin Ahmad bin ‘Abdir-Rahmaan bin al-Hasan bin Muhammad bin Abil-Barakaat Mas’ood As-Salaamee Al-Baghdaadee (due to his place of birth), Al-Hanbalee (due to his madh-hab), Ad-Dimashqee (due to his place of residence and death). His kunyah was Abul-Faraj, and his nickname was Ibn Rajab, which was the nickname of his grandfather who was born in that month (of Rajab).

He was born in Baghdad in 736H and was raised by a knowledgeable family, firmly rooted in knowledge, nobility and righteousness. His father played the greatest role in directing him towards the beneficial knowledge.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy on him, was deeply attached to the works of Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah, for he would issue legal rulings according to them and would constantly reference his books. This is since he served as a student under Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, the most outstanding student of Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah, may Allah have mercy on all of them. But in spite of this, he (rahimahullaah) wasn’t a blind follower or a fanatical adherent (to his teacher). Rather, he would review, authenticate, verify and follow the evidences.

Al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy on him passed to the  realm of the Akhira in  Ramadaan, 795H. He died while in Damascus. Continue reading

Death is not the absolute end. It is just the discontinuation of unity between the body and soul. It is a change from one state to another and a transition from this present life to that of the hereafter. “Allaah takes souls at the time of their death and [the souls] of those that do not die during their sleep. He retains those souls for which He has ordained death, whereas He releases the rest for an appointed term” [Qur’an 39:42] – ‘Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception’ {Qur’an 3:185}.

Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abu Bakr al-Ansari al-Qurtubi, was born in Cordoba, Spain, at the summlt of Its great period of Islamic civilisation. He was an eminent Maliki scholar who specialised in fiqh and Hadith. The breadth and depth of his scholarship are evident in his writings. Hur Al-Ayn – The Maidens Of Jannat (Paradise)

Allah (SWT) has placed in every human being the natural desire and inclination for gold, silver, money, transportation (cars), land, and other items of this world. The test for a person is how he responds to his desire for these items. If he uses these items to prepare for the hereafter, he will be successful. On the other hand, if he devotes himself to fulfilling his desire for these items and forgets about his purpose in this world, he will be amongst the losers in the hereafter.

Similarly, Allah (SWT) has placed in every person the natural desire for the opposite sex, and out of all the desires found in a person, the greatest test for a Muslim is how he fulfills this desire. He can either fail this test by spending all his energy to unlawfully satisfy this desire, or pass this test by remaining chaste and fulfilling this desire lawfully through marriage. Rasulullah (PBUH) said regarding the severity of this test, “I have not left a more harmful and severe temptation for men than women. ,,1 This test is even greater for us today because of the generally evil environment in which we are living in. It has become very easy to commit evil and it has become somewhat difficult to do good deeds because of this environment. As Rasulullah (PBUH) predicted, holding on to the commands of Allah (SWT) and staying away from evil during this time has become like holding on to a burning coal.

In order to motivate us to pass this test, it is very important for us to know what is the reward for controlling one’s desires and staying away from evil. It becomes very easy for a person to undergo difficulty and hardship to carry out an action when he knows what reward he will receive for doing this action. For example, a person will happily go to work every day and tire himself because he knows that he will receive his paycheck at the end of the month. In the same way, Allah (SWT) and his Rasul have given us a detailed description of the reward for controlling one’s desires in this world, i.e. Jannat (paradise).

Jannat is a place where a person will have all that he desires, and he will live a perfect (lad ever-lasting life. Each pleasure of Jannat will be far more superior than the comparable pleasure found in this world, and a person will be able to completely fulfill his desire for that pleasure. For example, a person in this world is always drinking liquids to quench his thirst. No matter how many delicious and tasty beverages he consumes, he will always become thirsty again in a few hours. But, in the hereafter, a person will be able to drink as much as he desires and quench his thirst permanently.
Similarly, the women of Jannat will be far more superior than the women of this world. Once a person comes to know of this, it will become very easy for him to stay away from evil and work towards the hereafter. This book contains a detailed description of these women based on the verses of the Qurfm, tafsir (explanation of the Quran), Ahadith, and stories of the pious.

The purpose of this book is to motivate us to work towards the hereafter and to control our desires in this world through marriage. We should not read this book as a fairy tale or a fantasy; rather we should understand that the contents of this book are a reality for which we should all work towards. It is our fundamental belief that Jannat and Jahannam (hellfire) are already in existence and a person will fulfill all his desires in Jannat both physically and spiritually. Continue reading

Hell: A Vision From Within

Praise be to Allah, the One Whom we ask for assistance and forgiveness. We ask for Allah’s refuge to secure us from our own evil selves, our wrong doings, and misdeeds; for whomever Allah, His Almighty guides and leads will never go astray, and whomever Allah, His Almighty misleads will never find the right path. I, also, testify that there is no God but Allah, the Only, who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His prophet and His slave.

“O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him Always,] and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.” (The Noble Qur’an 3:102)

“O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam,) and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve,)and from them both He created many men and women, and fear Allah through whom you demand your mutual (rights,) and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship) Surely, Allah is Ever an All Watcher over you” (The Noble Qur’an 4:1)

“O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the HellFire and made to enter Paradise.)” (The Noble Qur’an 34:70-71)

At the Beginning of the Road: Paradise was the Goal
I was on the first steps of the path, the path of Islam, which was at my early youth, gratitude and praise be to Allah. I used to consider paradise as the place that I should be working for. Probably, not only my hope, but also my feelings were that I deserved it! I had the feeling that the mere idea of hell and the thought of escaping from it was not applicable to a person of my hard work and prayers, for such a person as I am does not belong there, by Allah’s will, and will not enter it. Therefore, such a person does not have to fear it or to keep on asking Allah to save him from it. However, If he does so, then he is only following prophet Muhammad, Allah’s peace and blessings be on him, and imitating him, who himself asks to be saved from Hell, with the assurance that he is not one of its inhabitants. I have often felt, when I used to ask for Allah’s forgiveness, that I haven’t committed deeds that call for a so long regret, or a so much sorrow; Allah has enabled me to give up, and apologize for the sin that I have committed. This is repentance enough.

I have continued thinking in such a way for quite a period of my religious life. Then, when I began comprehending The Holly Qu’oran, realizing the true meaning of faith, the true meaning of sin, and started studying the morals of the prophets, the virtuous men, and the men of faith, the previous feeling of security started to disappear slowly. My prime and final worry circulated totally around escaping hell, and escaping what comes before it of painful torture. As for heaven, the whole heaven, namely paradise, there are other measures, and efforts that my will, power, and devotion were way below. Moreover, if I cry over the sins that I have committed, from this day until I die, my sorrows will not be enough, and if Allah’s mercy does not over shadow me with His forgiveness, then I will be one of the losers. So how did that happen?

Allah has granted humankind certain span of life in this world and with it the ability to think and then decide their course in this life. After that, everyone will die and be buried. Then all of Allah’s creation will be brought back to life on the Day of Judgment. Those who did well on the earth will be rewarded with Heaven/Paradise, but those who were unfortunate (i.e., the wrongdoers) will be sent to Hell. Heaven is the abode of enjoyment, which Allah prepared for the righteous and Hell is the abode for penalty or torment, which He set up for the disbelievers. This book shows Hell from inside based on the authentic Hadeeths. Continue reading

An Explanation Of Muhammad Ibn Abdal Wahab’s Kitab Al-Tawhid

Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhab
Language: English | Format: PDF  | Pages: 132 | Size: 1 MB

This book is a brief yet extremely beneficial explanation of Muhammad ibn Abdal Wahab’s famous Kitab al Tawhid. The book, as the title suggests, deals with the subject of worshipping Allah alone without associating partners with Him. The author highlights many matters that have become common among Muslims even though they are clearly acts of shirk or associating partners with Allah. Not only is this book distinguished due to the importance of the subject matter but also due to the methodology adopted by the author for which he is well known. The reader will find that the majority of the book consists of verses of the Qur’an, ahadith of the Prophet (pbuh), and sayings of the early Muslims.

The explanation presented at the end of each chapter of Kitab al-Tawhid is that of the renowned scholars Allamah Abd al-Rahman al-Sa’di, counted among the major scholars of recent times. He was born in al-Qasim, Saudi Arabia, in the year 1307 AH, and from a young age became engrossed in the attainment of knowledge. His dedication and thirst for knowledge led him to become an authority in many of the Islamic sciences as is evident from the books that he authored. He passed away in the year 1376 AH, may Allah have mercy on him. Continue reading

Causes That Aid In The Memorization Of The Qur’an

https://islamfuture.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/causes-that-aid-in-the-memorization-of-the-qur-an.jpg

Shaykh Mahmood al-Misri (Abu ‘Ammar)

Indeed, the Noble Qur’aan is the Book of Allaah which is the Seal of all the Scriptures… it is the course for a complete life that ensures prosperity and happiness for the servant in this life and in the Hereafter. It is the inimitable Word of Allaah that is not approached by falsehood neither from before it nor from behind it.

Before the advent of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), Mankind was in the darkness of shirk and kufraan (disbelief) until the Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) came with the Book of Allaah ‘azza wa jall, to take this entire universe out from this darkness into the lights of Tawheed and Imaan – and for this reason, Allaah subhaanahu wa ta’aala has said about this great Book,

“…(This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness into light by their Lord’s Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.” [Ibrahim: 1]

So this Ummah (Nation) turned around with this Book and turned away from shirk and jahiliyyah (ignorance) towards guidance and tawheed, away from the worship of creation to the worship of the Lord of creation and went from being an Ummah that lived along the margins of life to one that took leadership over Mankind and steered it towards the success of both worlds.

The Noble Qur’aan came to train up an Ummah, to produce a society and to build a wellfunctioning system… this training requires a portion of time and it needs to have an effect. It needs to act upon a Word and it needs to have a movement that expresses these actions and effects into a visible reality for the people.

Contemplate over the saying of ‘Aisha (radi’Allaahu ‘anhaa) when she was asked about the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), she said – as is narrated in Sahih Muslim – “His character was the Qur’aan.”

So whoever wishes to take on the character of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), then he needs to take hold of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of the leader of Mankind (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam). Continue reading
